The Toads

Toads are tetchy, the embodiment of stout. Like mice, they prefer to have sturdy ground underfoot and overhead. But toads are far more opportunistic when it comes to their dwellings. They prefer to tunnel under sturdy objects to build their homes, which rarely amount to more than space to sleep and prepare meals. While they are always secure places to live, other creatures might feel put off in the hole of a toad. This suits their generally rugged and independent lifestyles just fine, normally preferring their own company to that of others and rarely forming large groups or towns.

These hollowed homes can be found tucked under the many stumps and stones of the Stumplands of Treefall, the farming fields surrounding the Heap. Toads used to have a larger presence in the Warrens, and had even begun forming a town of sorts, before the great Grimalkin NAME moved in, forcing a mass exodus. With the help of Bas Cadoc and his Buafiagal, many toads were able to escape, and now maintain residence in the lands near the Heap. The toads are not always the best neighbors, and there is a growing anti Cadoc sentiment among the mice.

Common Cutlure

Toads traditionally take their names from the combination of a Celtic root and an earthy object. For many generations toads have been shapers of history. Their robustness often leaves then the sole survivors of upheaval events, leaving it to them to pass on the tales of what happened.

Toads of Note

There is no throne in Dara Saol, but there is a king of that stump. Bas Cadoc is the single most powerful person in Treefall, commanding the Buafiagal and protecting the Stumplands from the constant dangers seeping out from the Warrens. Finnean, and the ancestral hero Aelfreth.
